Social Media Internship

Joie de Vivre Counseling and Therapy is looking to hire a summer intern with strong knowledge and understanding of the social and graphic media landscape.

About the Internship

The purpose of the internship is to foster continued educational and professional development. Interns will gain experience in social media marketing and graphic promotion strategy and will have the opportunity to highlight their impact on business performance. Overall interns will support our marketing goals of building greater brand awareness among key audiences. Ideally, we seek someone who is obsessed with social media and is creative and thoughtful when interacting with online communities and building relationships. We are looking for a smart, curious, very proactive, nimble and adaptable person with the ability to multi-task and see a project from start to finish.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates and edits graphic content for online social media accounts using Adobe products.

  • Develop successful social media strategies that build on our audience base.

  • Writes and distributes relevant content to social media.

  • Monitors and engages our audiences via our social media platforms.

  • Tracks social media engagement statistics.

  • Assists with ensuring uniform content and tone of voice for landing pages, graphics, and other elements within the communities.

  • Implements new features to develop brand awareness, including promotions and competitions.

  • Experience with PC/Internet technologies, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Photoshop, and Social Media Platforms: LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

  • 1+ years of social media marketing.

  • 2+ years of college experience.

General Learning Objectives

  • Learn how to conduct competitive audits of brand competitors.

  • Learn how to conduct social strategy audits and highlight areas needing improvement in social media marketing.

  • Create new social media pages.

  • Learn how to clean-up SEO content on website and social media platforms.

  • Engage in communication with our social media base.

  • Develop and write original content for status updates on social media.

  • Post and monitor stories for social media platforms.

  • Select from photos to match brand design and content.

  • Learn how to write, format and post articles with SEO-rich headlines and content.

  • Learn how to utilize research on major holidays and events, brand happenings, hashtag and social media holidays, and upcoming pop culture as an avenue to improve social content and design.

  • Learn how to utilize Hootsuite and MailChimp, applications that support the process of design, marketing, and overall social media planning and organization.

  • Learn and apply real-time evaluation and assessment of social media channels.

  • Learn to assess and analyze the strengths and weaknesses of our current social media channels.

  • Execute on tactics to increase engagement, increase fans/followers from target audiences and produce compelling content.

  • Learn and apply the importance of metrics and analysis for informing decisions and provide a Social Media metrics report with monthly analysis.

Work Schedule and Time Commitment

The internship will from May 23, 2019 through August 22nd, 2019. Interns are required to work a minimum 10 hours per week. Some job duties may be done from home, but candidates are required to be available on Thursdays from 12PM-5PM.


The internship is unpaid and must tie the experience to the intern’s formal education program by integrated coursework or the receipt of academic credit.
